We had a lot of fun Saturday & Sunday. The music was great. The Seattle Cossacks performance was unbelievable. The run, bike games, and trophy winners were happy. We had hundreds of bikes from all over the state, Idaho, and Oregon at the event. Attendance is estimated at 2200+ guests for the weekend.

More event coverage is available from the News link.

Saturday run, bike games, camping, and live music.

We hope that you did join us for the First Annual Iron Horse Trail Red Horse to Wild Horse Biker Pentathlon. The IHTRHWHBP Run left Red Horse Diner at 10am on Saturday. The first stop was at Iron Horse Inn Bed & Breakfast, just next to the South Cle Elum Railroad Depot (Iron Horse Trail State Park) for a lesson in local history and horseshoes. Then we stopped at Old #3 in Ronald for a quick game of ping-pong. Stop 3 was the Puget Sound Energy Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility - Renewable Energy Center on Vantage HIghway, about 16 miles east of Ellensburg. With sustained winds of 30-40 mph, and 50 mph gusts, the ride up Whiskey Dick Mountain to the ridge was a workout, and the helmet toss was replaced with a rock toss game. The view is well worth the ride. Stop 4 was at Curly's II Tavern in Kittitas, where the wind was not a problem for a modified game of 9 ball. Due to timing difficulties, the stop at McCabe Park was moved back to the finish point at Red Horse Diner for the tire toss game.

For more information about the Saturday run, see these links:

Bike Games began at 3 pm on the lawn behind Red Horse Diner. ML3 played in the beer garden during the games. ML3 gave an amphitheater-quality performance.

Dry Camping was available for tents & RVs. Our primitive campground is within 1/4 mile of the Red Horse. It was the site for Live Music Saturday night. For 2011, camping will be moved to the Red Horse Diner lawn.

If you prefer a more sophisticated camp, the Ellensburg KOA campground is about 1/2 mile to the south, just off exit 106 from I-90. The KOA site is a lovely campground, on the banks of the Yakima River. KOA has group and individual tent sites for motorcycles, showers, bathrooms, a playground, a world-class fly fishing river, wireless internet, a swimming pool, and more. RV sites include full hook ups. ABATE does not have any agreement with KOA for this event. Contact KOA directly for more info.

If you prefer to stay in a motel, see the links on the Lodging page.

Live Music with Time Warp 3 began at 8 pm at the Toolbox Jam stage next to the camping area at old Highway 10 and Reecer Creek Road. Time Warp 3 also played on Sunday. For 2011, the Saturday music will be at Red Horse Diner in the new beer garden.

Sunday entertainment included the Grants Dancers, sponsored by Grant's Pizza Place.

The Grant's Girls dance team performs every Wednesday night at Grant's Pizza Place during open mic night. The dance team arrived by motocade at 11:00 am on Sunday, May 2, at Red Horse Diner.

The Seattle Cossacks, Time Warp 3, and music by Mr. E rounded out the entertainment.

Motorcycle Awareness Month

The Kittitas County Board of County Commissioners declared May as Motorcycle Awareness Month on April 6, 2010. According to the proclamation that ABATE supported:

Tens of thousands of Washington motorcyclists travel the roads, streets, and highways of the Evergreen State in their regular work and school commutes, and in their weekend adventures and vacation rides... Motorcyclists lack the protective armor of trucks and automobiles... it is appropriate to set aside a time to alert motorists to the number of motorcyclists on the road and to help motorcyclists become aware of the ways they can promote safety.

In addition, the Washington State House of Representatives passed House Resolution 4681 which declares the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness month. "A stronger emphasis on motorcycle safety and awareness will make our roads, streets, and highways safer for everyone."
